Zimbabwe commemorated the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI 2025) on October 9, with key government officials and stakeholders present. The event saw the inauguration of a new state-of-the-art Digital Centre in Selous, aiming to boost digital participation and learning in the region.
Ministers Dr. Jenfan Muswere and Hon. Tatenda A. Mavetera addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of media freedom, transparency, and bridging the digital divide. The new Digital Centre, although the architect or firm responsible remains unspecified, offers free high-speed internet and ICT services to the local community.
To celebrate the day, two secondary schools, Saruwe and Dombwe, received computers and Starlink kits. This initiative seeks to enhance digital learning and free access to online educational resources, empowering students and fostering inclusive digital participation.
The inauguration of the Digital Centre and the equipping of schools with digital tools demonstrate Zimbabwe's commitment to promoting universal freedom of information. These initiatives aim to strengthen media freedom, transparency, and digital inclusion, aligning with the goals of IDUAI 2025.
