The Obama Foundation's emerging leaders program, first launched in 2018, has expanded its reach to Europe in 2020. The program, aimed at inspiring, empowering, and connecting emerging leaders, is now in its third year on the continent.

One such participant is Malte Krüger, a member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament (Alliance 90/The Greens). Krüger, who began his political engagement in an unspecified country, was recently announced as one of 35 participants in the Leaders-Europe program.

The Leaders-Europe program, lasting for six months, focuses on deepening leadership skills. It aims to build close relationships among participants, enabling them to positively transform their societies and the world.

The program's global reach extends beyond Europe, with cohorts in Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, and the USA. The 2025/2026 cohort includes around 200 people from various international locations.

Former US President Barack Obama, who founded the program, has expressed his impressions of the passion, creativity, and determination of the program's participants. He hopes that they will learn from each other and continue to drive change towards a fairer, more sustainable, and hopeful future.

Weekly virtual meetings will bring participants together, fostering a global network of leaders dedicated to making a difference. The program's focus areas are not explicitly mentioned, allowing participants to bring their unique perspectives and initiatives to the table.

Malte Krüger's selection for the Obama Foundation's emerging leaders program is a testament to the program's commitment to empowering leaders from all corners of the world. As the program continues to grow and evolve, it promises to inspire a new generation of leaders committed to creating positive change.
