In a gripping match on Sunday, Wuppertaler SV (WSV) and 1. FC Cologne fought out a thrilling 2:2 draw.
The game started in a combative manner, with both teams struggling to create clear scoring chances. The deadlock was broken at the 30th minute when a mistake in front of their own goal led to Malek El Mala scoring for Cologne, giving the home team the lead - 1:0.
However, WSV responded swiftly. At the 47th minute, Etienne Paul Borie equalized for the visitors, making it 1:1. The momentum shifted, and the WSV continued to press, seeking a second goal.
The second half saw more action, with both teams creating opportunities. Amin Bouzraa, who came on as a substitute in the 61st minute, scored at the 68th minute to give WSV the lead - 2:1.
Cologne, undeterred, worked out half-chances for themselves throughout the match, but the WSV defense held firm, concentrating well to keep the scoreline in their favour.
WSV's lead was short-lived, as Kamo equalized for Cologne in the bottom left corner at the 35th minute, making it 2:2.
The match remained tight, with both teams creating chances but failing to find the winning goal. A handball by Vincent Schaub resulted in a goal that was initially awarded to WSV at the 56th minute, but was later disallowed.
In the closing stages of the game, Schaub came close to winning it for WSV, hitting the crossbar with a free kick in the 87th minute.
With the draw, WSV will take heart from their performance and look forward to their next matches. On Thursday (4. September), they will play against SpVg. Hagen 1911 at 7 pm, followed by a cup match against SW Essen on Wednesday (10. September) at 7:30 pm. On Saturday (13. September), they will play against SC Wiedenbrück at 2 pm.
