Viet Nam Vows Climate Action, Needs $233B by 2050
Vietnam, deeply vulnerable to climate change, is determined to adapt and innovate. It needs around US$233 billion in investments between 2025 and 2050 to safeguard agriculture, infrastructure, and human capital. The country is taking action, with smallholder farmers adopting efficient irrigation and resilient cropping systems. UNDP is supporting the government in amplifying local knowledge and advancing nature-based solutions.
Storms in Vietnam cause significant damage, destroying houses and infrastructure, and disrupting lives and livelihoods. Communities are responding by planting trees to protect land, homes, and lives. Women-led cooperatives in Binh Thuan Province have successfully reduced energy use by around 50% in the dragon fruit sector, benefiting farmers and lowering emissions. Nature-based farming practices are cutting emissions and improving yields for key crops across the country.
Vietnam aims to mainstream loss and damage and prioritize a robust, data-driven financing strategy in its updated NDC 3.0. It will present this at COP30, aligning ambitious development aspirations with urgent climate imperatives.
Vietnam's commitment to climate adaptation and innovation is clear. With support from UNDP and other partners, the country is implementing nature-based solutions, reducing emissions, and protecting its people and infrastructure. The upcoming NDC 3.0 update at COP30 will outline the country's ambitious plans to tackle climate change.
