Ural State Agrarian University Witnesses Surge in Popularity of Agricultural Specialties

In the Ural State Agrarian University, there has been a rising trend among students towards specialties in veterinary, zootechnics, agronomics, agri-engineering, and electroenergy. This shift is evident as students from Sverdlovsk technical schools and colleges gravitate towards agricultural production and livestock farming. By 2025, approximately 600 graduates are projected to emerge from these educational institutions, as per the regional information policy department.

The regional minister of agriculture and consumer market, Anna Kuznetsova, reported that over a third of the future graduates surveyed in 2025 already have employment lined up. These young specialists are anticipated to receive assistance and support in their professional development from their prospective employers. Additionally, the food and processing industry is anticipating the arrival of skilled professionals. At present, the region is in need of 1,400 specialists in various agricultural disciplines, with various efforts underway to diminish this demand. This is apparent in the increasing number of agreements on cooperation and student practice between employers and educational institutions, currently standing at over 300.

Previously, the regional head, Denis Pasler, ordered an intensification of efforts to staff the agricultural complex of the Sverdlovsk region. This initiative aligns with the objectives of the national project "Kadry". Within the federal project "Kadry in APK", agricultural producers can recover expenses related to employee training, student practice, and professional development. Moreover, agricultural enterprises can be reimbursed up to 90% of expenses for young specialists setting up a household, with higher education graduates eligible for a subsidy of 300,000 rubles, and those with secondary professional education receiving 200,000 rubles, provided they commit to working for at least 3 years in an agricultural organization.

Lastly, Denis Pasler previously allocated around 70 million rubles to support agricultural cooperatives and beginning farmers.

In summary, the regional focus on agricultural employment and training programs indicates an active and ongoing commitment to fostering a skilled workforce in the agrarian sector. The government's initiatives aim to facilitate this transition, offering financial support and practical measures to retain valuable talent in the industry. With technological advancements and innovation in crop production, the demand for trained specialists is expected to continue growing, ensuring a sustainable labor pipeline and a thriving agricultural landscape in the Sverdlovsk region.

  1. To address this growing demand, the regional government is collaborating with Ural State Agrarian University to expand online education and learning opportunities in agriculture-and-self-development, catering to a flexible and technologically-inclined student body.
  2. As part of the national project "Kadry", agricultural graduates are offered financial incentives for continuous education and self-improvement, fostering a culture of innovation and lifelong learning within the industry.
