Pforzheim University has appointed Professor Dr. Ingela Tietze as its new full-time vice-rector, with a focus on addressing the declining number of applicants. The decision was made by the University Council and Senate following an election, and Professor Tietze will take up her new role on January 10, 2024.

Rector Professor Dr. Ulrich Jautz expressed delight at Professor Tietze continuing to serve in the rectorate, stating that he believes she is well-equipped to tackle the challenges in student acquisition. Professor Tietze, who has served as a part-time vice-rector for energy management and climate protection at the university since December 2020, expressed her eagerness to take on the new challenges.

During her tenure as a part-time vice-rector, Pforzheim University has been certified for its energy management and recognised as a Fair Trade University. Professor Tietze has achieved significant milestones in climate protection and energy management, and her research focuses on sustainability assessment of energy systems, efficient design of energy and material flows, and climate-neutral energy supply for companies and neighbourhoods.

In addition to her new responsibilities in student acquisition, Professor Tietze will continue to oversee energy management and climate protection. This is a crucial aspect of running a university, as she emphasised, and one that she has demonstrated a commitment to throughout her career.

Professor Tietze thanked the assembly for their trust in her election and expressed her excitement about the task. She also emphasised her commitment to further sharpening Pforzheim University's profile for a sustainable university future.

The decline in applicants at Pforzheim University is due in part to the demographic shift and waning interest in MINT subjects. However, with Professor Tietze's expertise in student acquisition and her proven track record in energy management and climate protection, the university is well-positioned to address these challenges and secure a sustainable future.
