Robert "Bob" Corbett, Beloved Alumnus and Former CEO of Wornall Bank, Passes Away

Robert "Bob" Corbett, a distinguished alumnus of Park University and former CEO of Wornall Bank, passed away on March 31. Our thoughts remain with his children Robert and Marcia during this difficult time.

Bob Corbett's career in banking began after a summer job with City National Bank and Trust Co., which led him to make banking his lifelong profession. In 1949, he was appointed assistant cashier at an unspecified bank, and in 1954, he was elected associate vice president at the same institution.

In 1957, Bob Corbett became a founding director and chief executive officer of the Wornall Bank in South Kansas City, Mo. He retired as chairman emeritus from United Missouri Bancshares Inc. (now UMB) in 1987 and continued to serve as an advisory director of the south region until 2004.

Bob Corbett's contributions to Park University were significant. He served on the Board of Trustees for a decade and retired after a two-year term as chair in 1990. He was also an honorary trustee and a member of the Park University Trustees Society at the time of his death. In 1963, Bob Corbett was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award by Park University, and he was a charter member of Park University's Howard Bailey McAfee Heritage Society.

Bob Corbett's service to Park University extended beyond his role as a trustee. He served as Alumni Association president from 1952-1953 and was a Founders Day honoree in 1998. In 2010, the Robert P. and Mary Alice Corbett Stairway was named in honor of his legacy at Park University.

Bob Corbett also had a notable military career. He served in the U.S. Army Finance Office of the 86th Infantry Division during World War II in both the European and Pacific Theatres.
