Training Vehicle from Eicher Fuels Countrywide Skills Progression in India
The Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) and VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) have joined forces to launch the Eicher Training Van program. This innovative mobile training initiative aims to bridge the gap between engineering education and industry readiness in the automotive sector [1].
The program, which was rolled out across four technical institutes – Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (Patiala), Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology (Kondhwa), MERI College of Engineering and Technology, and ADAMAS University – delivers advanced, practical training in emerging automotive and mobility technologies directly to students [1].
At the heart of the Eicher Training Van program is a mobile training facility equipped with advanced diagnostic tools and vehicle components. The program structure combines live, practical demonstrations with 13 online learning modules hosted on the ASDC platform [1]. Students who complete the program will receive certificates jointly issued by ASDC and VE Commercial Vehicles, validating their enhanced competencies [1].
Mr. Vinkesh Gulati, Vice President of ASDC, stated that the initiative is a significant step towards making automotive education more application-oriented [2]. He further expressed that the response from students has been overwhelming [2]. Mr. Arindam Lahiri, CEO of ASDC, expressed that the partnership with VECV demonstrates how the private sector and skill bodies can collaborate to transform technical education delivery [3].
The Eicher Training Van program is designed to provide application-oriented education that combines practical demonstrations with theoretical knowledge, enabling students to become job-ready engineers equipped with skills relevant to the rapidly evolving automotive industry – especially in emerging areas like electrification and digitization [1].
Over 300 students have been trained through this program as of July 2025. The initiative boosts their technical skills, confidence, and ability to apply theoretical concepts in real-world settings, better preparing them for careers in the automotive sector [1]. This mobile model facilitates reaching students on campus, making advanced training more accessible and relevant [1].
The program is part of an ongoing effort to build a skilled, globally competitive workforce through initiatives that strengthen industry-academia engagement and promote hands-on skilling in emerging mobility technologies [4]. By future-proofing India's engineering talent pool amid evolving mobility technologies, the Eicher Training Van program exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to automotive skills development [1][2][3].
