New and Improved Urban Development – Empowering Communities Through Innovation and Education in Astana, Kazakhstan

Mayor Jenis Kasymbek of Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan's capital city, took to Instagram to share updates about several impactful social projects underway. The city's official website reported on these developments.

In the heart of the capital, structures like schools, kindergartens, the Palace of Schoolchildren, medical facilities, sports centers, and cultural establishments are being built. These areas cater to a variety of community needs, while open facilities are also given support. Kasymbek, along with Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Ermek Kosherbaev, had the chance to visit and inspect numerous key facilities in the city.

One of these exceptional projects, Joltap, developed in the autumn of 2023, aims to help citizens broaden their skill sets and navigate potential careers by offering free training, starting businesses, finding job opportunities, and obtaining consultations on state support measures. The program has already assisted nearly 13,000 individuals, training them in eleven vocational specialties and seven digital skills. Joltap plans to enhance its training capacity, aiming to instruct an additional 5,300 people in vocational specialties and 2,700 in digital skills by 2025. With the job search platform Jumystap operational, it connects job seekers with potential employers and clients conveniently. The project particularly focuses on major network and large employers in the city. Joltap runs in accordance with the Head of State’s directions and supports existing employment measures.

Kasymbek also visited the 'Aсыl Мирас' Support Center for Children with Autism, founded with the support of the city's administration in April 2023 (Dostyk Street, 13). With 13 functioning rooms for children's therapy and three waiting zones for parents, this center currently employs 20 teachers and offers six intervention programs aimed at developing the social, educational, life, and speech skills of children with autism. Moreover, the center provides an early support course for children aged 0-3.

The city also hosts 4 psychological and pedagogical correction cabinets, 2 rehabilitation centers, 2 support centers for children with autism, and other facilities. Approximately 95% of educational organizations have the resources needed to teach children with special educational needs.

In early 2022, Kazakhstan introduced a social services center called "Zhansaya," comprised of a new building and a separate children's block. Zhansaya specializes in providing specialized social services at home and rehabilitation services in a semi-inpatient setting. The Mayor expressed enthusiasm about continuing to support and expand this network of centers.
