Park University: A Busy Month for Trustees and Faculty

Park University has been buzzing with news and achievements in recent weeks. The Board of Trustees held its annual election, with some familiar faces returning and new members joining the ranks.

Vince Clark was re-elected as chair of the Board of Trustees for another year, while Sarah Moe was elected Secretary. N. Lynn Craghead was appointed Treasurer, and Andrew Shoffner was elected Vice Chair. In addition, Terry Calaway, Ed.D., Scott Jackman, and Timothy Pachasa were elected to serve a three-year term, effective July 1.

Meanwhile, the university's International Center for Music has been making waves. Ilya Shmukler, a graduate student at the centre, advanced to the finals of the 16th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, where he won the "Best Performance of a Mozart Concerto" and earned an additional $5,000 prize. Shmukler also received a cash prize of $10,000 as a finalist in the competition.

Shmukler's accomplishments did not go unnoticed, as an article featuring him was published in KCUR-FM on June 13 and The Kansas City Star on June 20. He was also interviewed for a story previewing the competition that aired on KDFW-TV in Dallas-Fort Worth on June 1.

Elsewhere at Park University, Matt Harris, Ph.D., assistant professor of political science, published an article on The Conversation titled "Primaries are getting more crowded with candidates, and that's good news for extremists and bad news for voters." Harris was also interviewed for various stories related to political events in Missouri and Kansas, airing on WDAF-TV, KSHB-TV, KMBZ-FM, and KWJC-FM.

In the world of academics, Amy Hersch, adjunct instructor of interior design, was highlighted in the National Kitchen and Bath Association's Designer Showcase section of Kansas City Homes & Style magazine on June 7.

Lastly, Martha Linscott, head coach of Park University's men's and women's golf teams, qualified for the U.S. Senior Women's Amateur Championship.
