Sweden's Transport Administration Unveils 1,200 Billion Kronor Railway Plan for 2026-2037
Sweden's Transport Administration has unveiled a new railway news plan for 2026 to 2037, with a budget of 1,200 billion kronor. The plan, not yet final, includes 27 projects deemed beneficial, such as noise reduction measures and traffic improvements. However, some previously planned news have been removed, and the minister has hinted at potential changes.
The plan allocates almost half of its budget to maintenance and repairs, with the remaining half for new projects. The Transport Administration expects road maintenance to be completed by 2037. Director Roberto Maiorana acknowledged that some projects may be reconsidered or removed due to changing circumstances. Infrastructure and property minister Andreas Carlson noted it's too early to say if the plan will be accepted as is. Pär-Erik Westin, who led the proposal, mentioned that some items may be scrapped due to lack of profitability. The plan will be sent for consultation to relevant businesses, municipalities, and regions this autumn.
The new railway news plan, with its mix of maintenance and new projects, aims to improve Sweden's railway infrastructure. However, its final form remains uncertain, pending consultation and potential changes due to profitability concerns and evolving circumstances.
