The National Grid Summer College Scholars Program, a partnership between National Grid and Syracuse University's Office of Pre-College Programs, is set to inspire the next generation of innovators in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and energy fields.

For the next three summers, the program will award full scholarships to 20 to 25 students from the Syracuse City School District, covering tuition, program fees, and room and board for the Summer College - On Campus experience at Syracuse University [1][2][4][5]. This initiative aims to remove financial barriers and provide high-impact learning opportunities on campus.

John Pettigrew, global chief executive officer for National Grid, stated that the initiative aims to invest and develop the skills and mindsets of the next generation of engineers. Robert Simmons III, National Grid's vice president for U.S. social impact and community engagement, reiterated National Grid's unwavering support for STEM education.

Christopher Cofer, executive director of the Office of Pre-College Programs at Syracuse University, expressed excitement about deepening the commitment to energy education and providing transformative experiences for students across Syracuse. Looking ahead, the partnership plans to expand credit course offerings with energy literacy in the curriculum.

During a recent classroom visit, National Grid's Alberto Bianchetti and John Pettigrew visited summer college students, demonstrating the hands-on nature of the program and the close collaboration between the two institutions.
