Starting winter semester 2024/2025, the Faculty of Technology at Pforzheim University welcomes a new addition to its Applied Mathematics team – Dr. Mario Teixeira Parente, a 35-year-old math and tech whiz. His extensive knowledge in mathematical fundamentals and advanced topics will enrich the study programs Applied Mathematics, Applied Computer Science, and Artificial Intelligence, as well as electives on Python programming.

With a background in the energy sector and applied research, Dr. Teixeira Parente has recently honed his skills in optimizing battery storage marketing strategies at Munich startup Entrix. His expertise in this area makes him a perfect fit at the intersection of applied mathematics and real-world applications. His passion for finding practical solutions to complex problems using mathematical methods and efficient software implementation is palpable.
Dr. Teixeira Parente's academic journey began with a three-year apprenticeship as a specialist in application development at Rohde & Schwarz. His interest in more academic approaches soon surfaced, leading him to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Scientific Computing at Munich University of Applied Sciences (HM) and a Master's degree in Mathematics at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU). Supported by the German National Academic Foundation and the Max Weber Program Bavaria, he completed his doctorate in Mathematics in 2020 at the Chair of Numerical Mathematics of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Barbara Wohlmuth, a Leibniz Prize winner.
In 2023, Dr. Teixeira Parente's work earned him the esteemed "Helmholtz AI Best Paper Award 2023" for a scientific article published in Nature Communications. This accomplishment stems from a research project on applied machine learning he conducted with his colleagues at the Research Reactor Munich II. In the winter semester 2023/2024, he also served as a visiting professor at the Institute of Statistics of LMU.
