Nova Meierhenrich: Navigating the Media Whirlwind

Escapes the frenzied journalistic spectacle she finds herself in - Steps Taken to Evade Media Frenzy

With a career as an actress, TV host, and allotment enthusiast, Nova Meierhenrich (51) seems to have it all. But recently, her new book, "Lebensschlenker," about her journey with fertility treatments, has sent shockwaves through the media. We sat down with her to discuss her book's impact, her ways of finding calm amidst the chaos, and her forthcoming endeavors.

The immense reaction to your book left you surprised, didn't it?

Nova: It certainly did! The past eight weeks have been an emotional rollercoaster – a whirlwind, really – and I didn't foresee the book causing such a stir. The overwhelming support and positive response have been heartwarming. My main objective with the book was to instigate a conversation about the pressures women face, the quest for motherhood, and the myriad paths leading to this topic. The enthusiasm and messages I receive day after day confirm that I've managed to do just that. When strangers approach me at events and share their stories, whispering a soft "thank you" in my ear – well, I can't help but scream with joy and shed a tear or two.

How do you create moments of tranquility amidst the madness?

Nova: Learning to create peaceful sanctuaries has been a journey for me. Previously, I found it hard to step back and let my body take control. But eventually, I realized that maintaining balance requires establishing moments of calm between the storm. A "floating garden" – like the one I experienced with Neudorff at the OMR in Hamburg – embodies just that. My van parked outside my door, to which I retreat whenever I yearn for the sea, serves as another refuge. The Elbe beach offers solace as well, where I can revitalize when time is scarce. And, of course, my allotment garden is a sanctuary where I find comfort and rejuvenation. As soon as the sun starts to peek over the horizon, I'm in the garden, tending to the earth – a process that anchors me in a way that nothing else can.

Does the gritty world of glamour contrast with your love for gardening?

Nova: Absolutely! My journey from the coast of Denmark to the glitz and glamour of the industry has been a unique one. But my appreciation for down-to-earth endeavors, such as cultivating the soil, has been a constant in my life. I relish the contrast between the two worlds, as they balance me out. The grit and determination necessary for gardening have helped me navigate the profession, and my success in the industry has enabled me to cultivate an allotment of my own.

Are your neighbors, too, adorned with stardust?

Nova: Not in the least! Many of my neighbors are oblivious to my career, and those who know, couldn't care less. There's a special charm in that – it's about connecting with people on other grounds. I enjoy casual banter with some neighbors over the garden fence, exchanging slices of cake and stories. Of course, there are the occasional stereotypical allotment gardeners, but they're just par for the course.

The gardening season is upon us. What does your allotment look like now?

Nova: At the moment, it's blooming with color! Although the vegetables haven't made their way to the beds yet due to the late frost in Hamburg, everything is sprouting and flourishing. The tulips are in full bloom, the grasses are growing high, and the plum and apple trees are adorned with blossoms. It's an amazing sight right now, and the anticipation of the garden's bounty is palpable. Once the frost saints depart, the vegetables will take their rightful place, and we'll be grilling under the stars.

Does Brian Bojsen, your partner and TV chef, lend a hand in the garden?

Nova: certainly not! (laughs) While he's more than capable of creating a delectable feast in the kitchen, he abhors any gardening tools! DIY and home improvements are tasks he despises with every fiber of his being – luckily, I don't share his aversion. However, Brian is an exceptional barbecue maestro, and our partnership is truly balanced, with him handling the culinary aspects and me taking care of the garden.

Offering guidance to fledgling green thumbs - what tips do you have for novice gardeners dreaming of embarking on their own journey?

Nova: My first advice is to let go of perfectionism. Gardening is an ever-changing process, and every year, the weather can bring new challenges. So, relax, start planting, and experiment – you're bound to have success or learn valuable lessons.

My second bit of advice is to craft a natural, free-flowing garden. Reserve some space in your allotment garden for wild growth, as it brings a touch of unpredictability and charm.

Finally, don't invest in special gardening attire! Let your clothes become part of the gardening experience – you'll be glad you did!

What can we expect from you in the upcoming year, besides your allotment garden and the North Cape trip?

Nova: I've got some exciting projects in the pipeline, but I can't reveal any details just yet. However, I can say that Brian, the two of us, and our beloved dog are planning an extended road trip to the North Cape this summer, taking in the stunning landscapes of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. It's going to be a voyage of self-discovery and a fitting farewell to the dream of having children. We'll weave work assignments throughout our journey, making for an unforgettable adventure!
