Phrapathom Witthayalai School Temporarily Closes Due to COVID-19 Outbreak

Phrapathom Witthayalai School, located in the Nakhon Pathom province, has temporarily shut its doors for three days following a surge in COVID-19 cases. The decision was announced on Wednesday after several classrooms were affected, and numerous students were identified as high-risk contacts, leading to a continuing rise in confirmed infections.

The school's move follows the directive issued by the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) in an urgent letter dated May 21. In response, Phrapathom Witthayalai School has bolstered its virus prevention measures as stated in the directive. The school's official statement reads, "In consideration of student safety, Phrapathom Witthayalai School announces a temporary closure from Wednesday to Friday (May 28-30) due to special circumstances."

During the closure, students are expected to attend online classes as per their regular schedule. Teachers will conduct these lessons and submit daily reports detailing their teaching activities.

Meanwhile, the Department of Disease Control's Division of Epidemiology reported the latest COVID-19 situation in Thailand, with 14,156 newly confirmed cases and four additional deaths as of Monday, May 26. Since January 1, the total number of confirmed cases and fatalities stands at 220,093 and 51, respectively.

Schools across Thailand, including those in Nakhon Pathom province, have been generally advised to stay open during the ongoing pandemic, subject to specific guidelines to manage such situations. These guidelines include operating schools unless an extreme situation occurs where control becomes challenging, increasing screening efforts, recommending home isolation when infections are found, and adhering to the Ministry of Public Health's advice on wearing masks, washing hands, and avoiding crowded places to minimize infection risks. The general public is also advised to take care of their health, avoid high-risk areas, and follow COVID-19 prevention guidelines.
