Safaricom Hook Circle Rift Valley Edition Empowers 600 Young Kenyans

Safaricom's youth platform, Safaricom Hook Circle, recently organized a special edition of their empowerment initiative in collaboration with Google Africa and Safaricom’s Technology Teams. The Safaricom Hook Circle Rift Valley Edition aimed to equip 600 young participants from the Rift Valley region with future-ready digital skills and foster youth entrepreneurship, particularly in technology and innovation sectors.

The event, held at Ol'Lessos, National Polytechnic in Eldoret, focused on providing hands-on learning experiences through workshops and bootcamps that enhanced practical technology and engineering capabilities. The involvement of Google Africa brought expertise and resources to support digital skills development.

The Safaricom Hook Circle's objectives for this partnership included youth empowerment through technology, enhancing entrepreneurial skills among youth, and building local talent that can contribute to Safaricom’s own technology ecosystem and Kenya’s broader digital economy.

The Hook Circle Rift Valley Edition is part of a larger series of youth empowerment boot camps designed to connect young people across Kenya to opportunities that support their growth in technology, career development, entrepreneurship, and culture. Since its inception in 2023, over one million youths from various counties have benefited from the Safaricom Hook Circle initiative. Plans are ongoing to engage more young people across all 47 counties in Kenya.

Young Kenyans between the ages of 10 and 24 can join the Safaricom Hook community by dialling *555# or signing up through the Safaricom App. The programme certified youth in the fields of Building & Civil Engineering and ICT.

The Hook Circle bootcamp focuses on disciplines like engineering and technology, creating spaces where youth can explore their passions, sharpen their skills, and connect with real opportunities. The Safaricom Care team was on the ground, providing clarity about Safaricom Hook and its operations.

Fawzia Ali Kimanthi, Chief Consumer Business Officer of Safaricom, stated that the Hook Circle is a platform for empowerment, inclusion, and innovation. The event, facilitated by Google Africa, included mentorship forums, technical demonstrations, and practical sessions.

The Hook Circle Rift Valley Edition is not limited to the Rift Valley region; it aims to engage young people across all 47 counties in Kenya. This event is part of Safaricom's broader goal to empower the youth through technology, helping to shape a generation ready to build and lead Kenya's future.
