Rockland County Proposes $913.8M 2026 Budget Without Tax Hike
Rockland County Executive Ed Day has proposed a 2026 business budget of $913.8 million without any increase in property taxes. This comes as Day seeks re-election in November, with no major competitors yet announced. Notably, Rockland County maintains a prestigious Moody's Triple-A bond rating, the only New York county to do so.
Day attributes the county's fiscal success to his conservative budgeting and prudent financial management since taking office in 2014. A decade ago, Rockland faced a significant $138 million deficit, which has since been overcome. The proposed 2026 business budget is a $37.8 million increase from the 2025 business budget of $876 million.
Day's administration has also implemented a 4% tax cut over the past two years. In addition to the business budget proposal, the county is planning to allocate an extra $1 million to the HERROS Program, which provides college tuition reimbursement for emergency volunteers. Meanwhile, the Rockland County Firefighter Memorial is nearing completion.
Ed Day's proposed 2026 business budget, with no property tax increase, reflects his administration's commitment to fiscal responsibility. The county's strong financial position, as evidenced by its Moody's Triple-A bond rating, is a testament to Day's leadership. With the Rockland County Firefighter Memorial nearing completion and additional funding proposed for the HERROS Program, Day's re-election campaign is focused on continuing these positive trends.
