Restart of Contra Costa's Shark Tank: $2000 Reward for Aspiring Youth Business Pioneers
Moraga, California: The Contra Costa Shark Tank Youth Competition, organized by Campolindo High School's Entrepreneurship Club, is set to resume for its second year. This event, which proved successful with over 300 applicants in its inaugural year, aims to inspire young entrepreneurs across Contra Costa County. Students from kindergarten through 12th grade now have the opportunity to compete for a $2,000 top prize to bolster their business ventures.
Applications are currently open and must be submitted by March 15, 2025. The selection process will focus on the contestants' passion for entrepreneurship, the feasibility of their business ideas, the presentation of their concepts, and their plans for utilizing the prize money. Ten finalists will be chosen to showcase their proposals at the Finalist Pitch Event scheduled for May 1, 2025, at the Lafayette Library.
Maya Hammerman, high school senior and founder of the competition, expresses her excitement for engaging more students in entrepreneurship this year. Having embarked on her entrepreneurial journey during her elementary school years, Hammerman aims to foster a spirit of innovation among youths of all ages in Contra Costa County.
Last year's competition involved finalists ranging from 9 to 17 years old, with Fatimah Hussein, founder of Workout Wizard, taking the first place prize. Reflecting on her experience, Hussein expresses her gratitude for the opportunity, noting that it has proven both rewarding and inspiring.
The Finalist Pitch Event will take place from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Lafayette Library, where winners will be chosen by a panel of judges. Other prizes include $500 for second place and $250 for third place. Sponsors supporting the competition include Visa, PG&E, Clorox, the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, and the Campolindo Parents Club.
