The University of Arizona's Tech Launch Arizona (TLA) is at the forefront of driving innovation and entrepreneurship, particularly in the areas of healthcare, medical innovations, sustainable technologies, and intellectual property commercialization.

TLA, a centre of expertise and resources, plays a crucial role in bringing to market groundbreaking technologies. One such innovation is Senphonix, a wearable technology developed by Philipp Gutruf, Tucker Stewart, and Kevin Kasper, which captures high-fidelity physiological data for an uninterrupted, automated view of patient health.

The university's momentum reflects a deep collaboration across the university and with external partners. This collaboration is evident in the record-breaking 324 invention disclosures in fiscal year 2025, the highest yet, spanning diverse sectors but with prominent strengths in biomedical and AI technologies.

TLA's focus is on technology-driven ventures aligned with the University of Arizona’s strongest research areas. These include healthcare and medical innovations, such as stroke recovery and AI-driven healthcare, sustainable and innovative technologies like aquaponics, and other innovations driven by extensive faculty and student research activity.

TLA also supports student entrepreneurship through initiatives like Startup Wildcats, which collaborated with over 80 ventures and awarded more than $20,000 in funding. The programme demonstrated the power of student-driven entrepreneurship to energize the campus and spark new ideas.

In addition, TLA has been instrumental in launching 13 startups in the past year based on inventions ranging from cancer therapies to solar towers that dry food waste. One such solar tower is designed by Professor Goggy Davidowitz for large-scale drying of food waste.

Moreover, TLA secured 94 patents and executed 86 licenses in 2025, generating $12.1 million in royalties. The university's commercialization pipeline is strong, with the launch and success of startups, companies starting to reap the benefits of the Seed Fund, and a focus on engaging students in entrepreneurial aspirations.

TLA's role extends beyond protecting intellectual property and market research to licensing, startup incubation, and collaboration with graduate students to convert inventions into market-ready ventures. This strategic focus is backed by TLA’s commitment to supporting ventures that leverage medical and healthcare innovations, sustainable and innovative technologies, and intellectual property commercialization in areas matched to the university’s growing research impact and invention disclosures.
