Portugal Golden Visa Revamped: New Paths for Residency and Citizenship

Portugal's Golden Visa program has been revamped, offering new investment paths for non-EU citizens seeking residency and potential citizenship. The updated program, effective since November 20, 2024, focuses on cultural investments and private equity funds.

The revised Portugal Golden Visa allows applicants to add family members, including spouses, children, and parents, to their application, with residency permits valid for 2 years and renewable every 2 years.

The Cultural Investment Option, introduced recently, offers a 20% discount in low-density areas, reducing the investment to 250,000 €. This option supports cultural projects with limited financial returns but significant social impact. Applicants must choose a certified project, transfer the investment, and coordinate with a lawyer.

Alternatively, the Investment Fund Option requires a minimum investment of 500,000 € in private capital or venture capital funds. Applicants must join an approved fund and undergo fund manager evaluation. Both options lead to residency permits renewable every 2 years, with stay requirements of 7 days in the first year and 14 days in the following two years in Portugal.

After maintaining the investment and residency status for five years, applicants can apply for Portuguese citizenship, regardless of when their first residency application was approved.
