Phénomena Festival 2022 Kicks Off in Montreal: Sold-Out Shows & Unique Performances Await
The 14th edition of the Phénomena Festival is set to commence in Montreal from October 2 to 24, promising a diverse range of multidisciplinary performances and events. The festival has been celebrated by the Montreal Arts Council for its unique and eclectic nature, receiving a prize of 30,000$.
The festival was initially delayed by a day due to the Montreal Society of Transportation strike. Despite the hiccup, the event is now ready to commence with a packed schedule. Highlights include a performance by Socalled, a Mile End icon, at La Sala Rossa on October 18, revisiting their greatest hits from the last 25 years.
At Usine C, Olivier de Sagazan's 'Transfiguration' sold out quickly, drawing crowds eager to witness his unique artistry. The festival will close with a Cabaret DADA in the flesh, featuring a DJ to celebrate the transition to the new director, Gaetan Pare, who takes over from founder D. Kimm after 14 years. Kimm plans to pen a book about her company, Electric Girls, founded in 2001.
The Not So Nice Feminist Cabaret, in its 4th edition, was also a sell-out this year. Meanwhile, the 'Deaf performance night' at the Agora de la danse will present four numbers exploring the themes of deafness and diversity.
The Phénomena Festival promises an exciting and eclectic mix of performances this year, with something for everyone. From sold-out shows to unique cabarets, the festival continues to celebrate its singularity and festive spirit, as recognised by the Montreal Arts Council.
