University's annual Honors Convocation, held on April 21, 2021, saw Park University students, academic staff, and employees honored for their achievements.

Park University Honors 2020-21 Academic Accomplishments

Park University celebrated its annual Honors Convocation on April 21, 2021, honoring students, faculty, and staff for their exceptional contributions. This virtual event recognised a diverse range of achievements, from academic excellence to teaching prowess, leadership, and service.

Students Shine Bright

Two students, Jocelyn Clayton and Rinku Gopali, were honoured with the Outstanding Parkite Award. This prestigious accolade is typically bestowed upon students who demonstrate exemplary dedication, leadership, and service to the university community.

Clayton, an English and secondary education/English major from Burlington Junction, Mo, boasts a impressive 4.06 grade point average and is a member of Park's Honors Academy. She served as the Park Student Government Association secretary in 2019-20 and played a key role in establishing Park's chapter of Future Business Leaders of America - Phi Beta Lambda. In addition to these accomplishments, she also received the 2019 Toni Griggs Award and a 2020 Dr. Doris Howell Leadership Award.

Gopali, an information and computer science/software development major from Kathmandu, Nepal, holds a 3.72 GPA and served as president of Park's chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery. She was also recognised with the Dr. Doris Howell Leadership Award in 2018 and the Outstanding Class Member Award in 2019.

Faculty and Staff Honoured

Several faculty members were also recognised for their outstanding contributions. Timothy Westcott, Ph.D., associate professor of history, was the recipient of the Distinguished Humanities Faculty Award. Greg Claycomb, Ph.D., professor of chemistry, received the Excellence in Academic Advising Award.

In the teaching excellence awards, Linda Bell, lecturer of accounting, was awarded the President's Award for Teaching Excellence (for full-time faculty), while Charles Troppito, adjunct instructor of management information systems, received the Provost's Award for Teaching Excellence (for adjunct faculty).

Wen Hsin, Ph.D., professor of computer science, was honoured with the J.L. Zwingle Award. Dmitry Gimon, Ph.D., associate professor of information systems and business analytics, was the recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award.

The Louisa Davidson Hinde / Carolyn Hinde Zarkaryan Memorial Award

Three students, Taylor Lucas, Ozoda Narzullaeva, and Henry Roehrich, received the Louisa Davidson Hinde / Carolyn Hinde Zarkaryan Memorial Award. This award is given to students who demonstrate exceptional leadership and service in the areas of international understanding, human rights, and peace.

The Honors Convocation Program includes a complete list of awards presented, including students named as Presidential Scholars and various departmental awards. This event serves as a testament to the commitment to academic excellence, service, and leadership at Park University.
