The PIKSL in Aufbruch project, a satellite of the PIKSL Laboratory Wuppertal in the Hofaue, is an innovative initiative aimed at enhancing digital literacy and promoting social inclusion for people with mental disabilities. Funded by the Social Foundation NRW for a duration of two years, the project is part of the broader Aufbruch cluster's mission to transform regions and address local social challenges using digital tools and methodologies.

The PIKSL in Aufbruch project embodies the concept of 'digital neighborhood work,' a strategy that leverages digital technologies to strengthen community bonds and provide targeted assistance to vulnerable groups. By creating accessible digital platforms and communication channels, offering digital guidance and social support, and facilitating interaction among neighbours, caregivers, social workers, and people with disabilities, the project aims to empower individuals with mental disabilities to engage more fully in their communities.

Integrating PIKSL, an initiative known for teaching digital skills to marginalized groups, into the Aufbruch framework signifies a combined effort to improve digital literacy and social inclusion specifically for people with mental disabilities. The project's ultimate goal is to empower these individuals, thereby improving their quality of life and community participation.

The project operates in the district, offering support on smartphones, internet, technology, etc. free of charge and without obligation on Mondays from 10 to 14 o'clock and Wednesdays from 14 to 18 o'clock. The initiative also encourages people with different prior knowledge to learn from each other, share their experiences, and live digital participation in the district together, setting a sign for equal opportunities and lived inclusion.

Moreover, the project creates further job placements for people with mental illness from "proviel GmbH," further reinforcing its commitment to equal opportunities and social inclusion. Although the project does not specify any specific goals or objectives beyond digital participation and equal opportunities, its impact on the lives of those it serves is undeniable.

In conclusion, the PIKSL in Aufbruch project is a significant step towards empowering people with mental disabilities by combining digital skills training and neighbourhood networking within a regional activation and transformation framework, fostering inclusion, participation, and social cohesion through digital neighbourhood work.
