Migration Agency Simplifies Researcher, PhD Student Permits

The Migration Agency has launched a new section on its website, specifically designed for researchers and PhD students. This move aims to simplify the application process and increase the proportion of complete cases, thereby reducing processing times.

The new section provides a comprehensive guide, outlining the differences between various types of permits for students and researchers. It details their conditions, suitability, duration, and limitations. This initiative aligns with Sweden's government directive to shorten processing times, particularly for residency permits related to work, study, and research.

The new model for handling PhD student permits is inspired by the successful process implemented for work permits in 2024, which significantly reduced processing times. Christine Davidsson, section manager at the Migration Agency, expects the new process to make the application procedure more predictable and transparent for PhD students.

The Migration Agency's new section for researchers and PhD students is set to streamline the application process. With clear guidance on permit types and conditions, the agency aims to increase complete cases and shorten processing times, meeting the government's directive.
