Mastering the Art of Cycling: A Guide for Novice Pedalers

Erwin Lautwein, the head of continuing education at ADFC Düsseldorf, has announced plans for in-person courses focused on repair, maintenance, and adjustment for cyclists. The courses, scheduled to start in March 2025, aim to improve cyclists' technical competencies and promote a safer, more enjoyable cycling experience.

Lautwein launched the continuing education initiative for cyclists in January, which has already seen significant success with nine online events. The initiative has attracted participation from various regions, including NRW and other federal states, and has been open to both the public and ADFC Düsseldorf members.

The repair/maintenance and adjustment courses will involve hands-on work on one's own bicycle, with the aim to improve the technical condition of bicycles. This can make bicycles safer, reduce personal mistakes, and help balance other people's mistakes through safe and foresighted cycling.

Even with right of way, a timely shoulder check can prevent turning accidents, and these courses will teach cyclists essential safety techniques. The courses will also focus on fun, fewer breakdowns while cycling, and mastery of one's own bicycle, with the ultimate goal of encouraging more bicycles in better technical condition on the roads.

As soon as group events are allowed, the repair/maintenance and adjustment courses will be offered as in-person events. If you're interested in these courses, you can find the latest detailed schedule by checking directly with ADFC Düsseldorf or their official communications as the start date approaches. For more information, you can contact ADFC Düsseldorf at 0211 15835150.

Lautwein remains optimistic that the continuing education initiative will lead to more consideration, tolerance, and safety in road traffic. The initiative will continue to include exchange among like-minded people, fostering a community of cyclists committed to safer roads and better cycling experiences.

By participating in the in-person courses for cyclists, offered by ADFC Düsseldorf starting March 2025, one can expect to enhance not only their cycling skills but also their overall lifestyle and education in self-development through learning essential repair, maintenance, and adjustment techniques. These hands-on courses aim to encourage a safer, more enjoyable, and better-equipped cycling community that values learning and continuous improvement.
