Mandatory 75% Attendance for Upcoming Class 10th and 12th Board Exams in 2025 as per CBSE Attendance Rules; Here's the Official Notice
CBSE Cracks Down on Attendance Requirements for Class X and XII Students
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has tightened its attendance policy for the upcoming 2025-26 academic year, with a focus on improving exam integrity and academic discipline.
Starting next year, students in Classes X and XII must maintain a minimum attendance of 75% to be eligible to take the board exams. Attendance below this threshold will result in disqualification, making students ineligible for the Class 10 and 12 board examinations.
Schools are urged to clearly communicate this attendance requirement to parents and students at the beginning of the school year. In cases of low attendance, schools will issue warning letters to students and parents, reinforcing the seriousness of non-compliance.
Approval from the school and the chairman is required for cases that fall within the permissible shortage range (between 60% and 75%). Attendances below 60% will only be accepted in very special and well-documented circumstances.
Attendance below 75% may be excused for valid reasons such as medical emergencies, bereavement, or participation in recognized national/international events with proper documentation. Exceptions are considered only after a school proposal and CBSE chairman’s approval.
Schools must maintain accurate attendance records for audits and inspections by CBSE authorities. Any attempt to manipulate attendance records will be treated as a violation leading to potential disciplinary action. No acceptance of attendance condonation requests will be accepted after the deadline of January 7, 2026.
In extreme cases, persistent non-adherence by schools could result in disaffiliation of the school from CBSE. Schools must ensure that they are facilitating honest enrollment and maintaining accurate attendance records to avoid such penalties.
The CBSE's increasing emphasis on attendance is part of its larger initiative to improve exam integrity, discourage enrollment-only methods, and strengthen academic discipline. By implementing stricter attendance policies, the CBSE aims to ensure that students are receiving a quality education and are prepared for their future endeavors.
