Lindy Kyzer & Jo-Ellen Adkins Push STEM Expertise for Intelligence Community's Future

Lindy Kyzer, a former international affairs major, is now promoting STEM expertise for the intelligence community's future workforce. Meanwhile, Jo-Ellen Adkins, supported by the FBI's EEO office, is developing career opportunities for underrepresented backgrounds in the security agency.

Kyzer, who once faced her parents' concerns about employability, is now advocating for STEM skills in intelligence. She joins Jo-Ellen Adkins, who emphasizes the importance of STEM for intelligence students at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA).

The recent House Intelligence Committee interim report highlighted the CIA's mishandling of sexual assault and harassment cases. Lauren Buitta of Girl Security warns that such mishandling could deter potential recruits. She also laments opposition to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the national security workforce.

Despite gains in minority applicants, the ODNI's fiscal 2023 demographic report shows a decline in workforce diversity. To address this, the ODNI is facilitating public-private talent exchanges within the intelligence community.

Lindy Kyzer and Jo-Ellen Adkins are pushing for increased STEM expertise in the intelligence community. However, challenges remain, including the mishandling of sexual misconduct cases and opposition to diversity efforts.
