The Lenfilm studio, in collaboration with the Russian Ministry of Culture, is set to organise the Lenfilm-debut laboratory for the second time, following its successful debut in 2022. This initiative, spearheaded by producer Natalia Drozh of the company "STV" and Forest Film, aims to elevate the quality of domestic debut projects and foster the creation of original, bright films by young authors.

Ten debutants will be selected to participate in the laboratory, working under the guidance of industry professionals to refine their scripts into ready-to-launch projects. Directors over 18 years old, who have not yet made their first full-length film, can apply, either independently or with a screenwriter.

The curators for this year's laboratory include renowned names such as Alexander Veledinsky, Nikolai Homeriki, Maxim Pezhemsky, Alexei Popogrebsky, Andrey Proshkin, Marina Razbezhkina, Anna Parmas, Lyubov Borisova, Bakur Bakuradze, and Natalia Meshchaninova.

The Lenfilm-debut laboratory covers accommodation and travel expenses to St. Petersburg, where the workshop will take place, and is free of charge for the participants. The top ten finalists will develop their scripts from June to December under the guidance of leading Russian directors.

Interested applicants can find the competition rules and application on lenfilm-debut.ru. The application process includes a full-length debut film script, synopsis and annotation, creative biographies, director's statement, motivational letter, and a portfolio - one completed film work (short film, web series, documentary).

The deadline for applications has been extended to April 7, 2024. The list of shortlisted candidates will be announced on April 30. For more information about the application process, follow Lenfilm-debut on VKontakte and Telegram, where materials on how a beginner director can work with the documents required for the application are provided.

The Lenfilm-debut laboratory's ultimate goal is to help beginners integrate into the modern film context and contribute to the growth of the Russian film industry. The first Lenfilm-debut laboratory took place in 2022, with Natalia Drozh at the helm. The masters for the 2024 laboratory are Alexandra Vasnetsova and Vsevolod Koršunov.

Stay tuned for updates on the Lenfilm-debut laboratory and the exciting projects that will emerge from this unique opportunity for budding filmmakers.
