Unoccupied teacher positions should be distributed. - Job allocations will be arranged in this manner:
In a recent development, Minister of Education Theresa Schopper (Greens) has announced the distribution of 1,440 unfilled teacher positions for the upcoming school year in the state of Baden-Württemberg. The positions, which have been left vacant due to a software error since 2005, will now be allocated to various school types based on their staffing needs.
Primary schools will receive the largest share, with 505 positions, followed by 364 positions for secondary general schools (Haupt- and Werkrealschulen), 326 positions for secondary schools (Realschulen), 120 positions for grammar schools (Gymnasien), and 60 positions for special needs schools (Sonderpädagogik).
The distribution reflects the priority given to primary schools and other school types, with primary schools receiving additional positions to address challenges such as education of refugees and expansion of full-day care. A reserve of 300 positions is being created for the transition to the nine-year grammar school, which will require additional teaching staff in the future. The remaining 155 positions will be used to expand the sick leave reserve.
Initially, 100 of the reserve positions will be used at vocational schools, 50 at comprehensive schools, and 150 at secondary and intermediate schools. Special Pedagogical Education and Counseling Centers (SBBZ) will receive 485 positions due to the greatest need at these schools.
The personnel administration program in Baden-Württemberg's Ministry of Education and Finance marked these positions as filled, although they were actually vacant. The state government admitted to the error last week, and a special meeting discussing the filled positions was held in the Education Committee of the state parliament in Stuttgart, the capital city of Baden-Württemberg.
Minister Schopper has warned against having too high expectations for the filled positions, stating that the number of filled positions might suggest a paradise, but the reality is more complex. Despite the distribution, the number of unfilled positions still remains a concern, and the Minister emphasised the need for continuous efforts to address the teacher shortage in the state.
- Initiatives for vocational training are crucial in an effort to address the imbalanced distribution of teaching positions, as only 60 positions out of the 1,440 unfilled for the upcoming school year are allocated to special needs schools, when compared to the 505 positions given to primary schools.
- Amidst the general news and politics, the Education Committee of the state parliament in Stuttgart will focus on the ongoing issue of teacher shortage, given the software error that left 1,440 teacher positions vacant since 2005, with a particular emphasis on the development and implementation of vocational training programs for education-and-self-development.
