International Thai Drama's Potential for Global Domination through Strategic Planning
The Television Drama Script Writers Association (TSA) is leading the charge for the Thai scriptwriting industry, aiming to compete on a global stage. A recent seminar, "Beyond Borders: Bringing Thai Scripts to the Global Stage," and the "Writer's Room 3 Gen Workshop" are prime examples of TSA's efforts to elevate the Thai entertainment industry systematically and sustainably.
Thirty plots from new-generation writers were selected to participate in the seminar, with plans for them to evolve into ongoing projects. The project, which tags include Thai drama, success, entertainment, storytelling, Thai audiences, worldwide, and competition, focuses on strategic development. This includes crafting universally relatable themes, memorable characters, and engaging plots with strong endings.
The seminar served as a clear example that Thai scriptwriters have immense untapped potential to expand and compete internationally. TSA, acting as a driving force, is fostering scriptwriting excellence and global competitiveness for Thai television dramas.
Key strategies highlighted in these initiatives include emphasizing core universal themes, developing fresh, engaging plots, and creating memorable characters that resonate internationally. Learning from established global markets, such as the Korean drama industry, about how to transform local scripts into globally appealing series is also a key part of these efforts.
Park Ba Ra, scriptwriter of Under the Queen's Umbrella, and Chang Shin Ae, producer from Studio Dragon, were invited to share insights at the seminar. Chang Shin Ae stressed that a good script needs a fresh, engaging plot with a memorable ending, while Park Ba Ra emphasized the importance of crafting universally relatable core themes and creating memorable characters.
The "Writer's Room 3 Gen Workshop" brings together Thai scriptwriters from three different generations, aiming to merge resources and potential from different generations. Supporters from both public and private sectors have joined forces to back the initiative, including the Department of Cultural Promotion, Thailand Creative Culture Agency, One Family One Soft Power, True CJ, One31, Channel 3, Channel 7HD, GMMTV, MONOMAX, and more.
Khathahat Busaphaket, president of TSA, stated that the project is not just about skill development, but also about creating an infrastructure that solidifies the industry by developing quality content linked to global markets. TSA serves not only as the professional organization for scriptwriters but also as a catalyst for the industry, driving it forward towards global competitiveness.
The 30 plots from emerging writers will be further developed and presented to television stations, streaming platforms, and top studios. TSA will serve as the central hub for connection and driving these "real projects" forward in the near future. With these initiatives, the Thai scriptwriting industry is taking a significant step towards competing on a global stage.
