In the heart of Humboldt Park, Chicago, lies a vibrant cake shop named Reina's Cakes. The shop, located on Division Street, is more than just a bakery; it's a second home and a place to learn business for many. This is the story of its inspiring owner, Reina Marcelle.

Reina, a pastry chef, moved to Chicago in 2017 to start fresh. With just $25 in her pocket, she embarked on a journey that would lead her to open Reina's Cakes. The shop's walls are adorned with a photo of Reina on her first day as a street vendor, a stark reminder of her humble beginnings.

Reina's goal was not just to make a difference with her business, but to create the most beautiful cakes ever seen. Today, Reina's Cakes offers a variety of 30 cake flavours, catering to diverse tastes. The shop also offers sugar-free, gluten-free options, and even cakes made for cats and dogs.

Reina is a firm believer in perseverance. Her motto, "Don't give up and don't quit," echoes through the shop. This spirit of resilience is not just limited to the business world; it extends to Reina's community work.

During Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins on Tuesday, Reina runs a 12-week program for high school students to work in her shop. For student Thyanifer Infante, this was more than just a job; it was a chance to discover a "little secret passion" for cake decorating. The shop, under Reina's guidance, has become a safe haven for students like Thyanifer.

In addition to providing employment opportunities, Reina's Cakes also offers cake decorating classes. These classes, along with the shop's warm and inviting atmosphere, make Reina's Cakes a hub for creativity and learning.

Reina Marcelle's story is a testament to the power of determination and innovation. Starting with a single dream and a small amount of money, she has built a thriving business that not only satisfies sweet tooths but also nurtures the aspirations of young minds. Her shop, Reina's Cakes, is more than just a bakery; it's a beacon of hope and inspiration in Chicago's Humboldt Park.
