Insights on Our School's Recording Methods (PBR)

At the heart of London's vibrant music scene lies the Pete Tong DJ Academy, a music school that nurtures raw talent and propels students towards professional careers in the industry. One of its unique features is the school's in-house record label, PBR, dedicated to showcasing and releasing students' music.

The process of mentoring and signing an artist at PBR is structured and designed to develop student talent, provide real industry opportunities, and foster a nurturing environment. It begins with talent scouting and discovery, where promising artists and producers are identified through contests, showcases, or submission platforms.

Once identified, students receive guidance from industry professionals, helping them develop their creative skills, production techniques, and artistic identity. This mentoring includes interactive live sessions, talent scouting, and community feedback, ensuring artists are performance-ready and industry-visible.

Students then submit their work to the in-house label or partner labels for constructive critiques and potential signing. If an artist shows potential and readiness, they may be signed, often connecting them with producers, songwriters, and collaborators to shape their sound and recordings.

The PBR team manages all projects that transpire, including marketing responsibilities such as building bespoke campaigns, funding budgets, designing release artwork, and more. They also support artists in developing their music, networking, and collaborative skills.

The school, Music School London, offers a wide range of music education options, including degrees, short courses, diplomas, and higher education courses like foundation years. Its mentors are carefully selected from its team of lecturers, industry experts, and TEF Gold award winners.

To be a part of PBR Recordings, a student can submit their demo to hello@our schoolrecordings.co.uk or directly book a 1-2-1 session with mentors Kwame Kwaten or John Fortis. The school's campuses are located in London, LA, Ibiza, and Online, making them accessible worldwide.

In addition to its comprehensive artist development pipeline, the school offers access to a range of free music-making tools and tutorials, weekly meetings and communications with the PBR team, and hosts an exclusive networking night where students can connect, meet the PBR team, and watch performances from PBR artists and fellow students.

The school's alumni, such as Leah Haworth and Sam The Zoologist, have gone on to achieve significant success in the music industry, demonstrating the effectiveness of the school's approach. The school's mission is clear: to help students release music, gain industry exposure, and achieve their musical goals. It's where creativity meets opportunity.
