Independent Work Resource: The Writing Center

Andrea Reino, a student at an unspecified institution, recently completed a Junior Paper that delved into the controversial topic of shackling pregnant inmates in New York women's prisons. The revision process helped Andrea understand the importance of being engaged in her work and the benefits of seeking help when needed.

The Junior Paper was Andrea's first substantial piece of independent work, and despite ignoring her own advice for efficient work during winter break, she managed to complete it. After completing the first draft, Andrea had a phone conference with her professor that required numerous revisions.

Using a Writing Center to revise a substantial independent work, such as a Junior Paper, involves a collaborative, process-oriented approach where writers receive individualized feedback to improve their ideas, structure, style, and mechanics.
