Increasing Demand: Initiation of a Million-Scale Venture
Mühlheim is set to expand its educational infrastructure with the construction of an addition to its Elementary School. This project, aimed at addressing the growing demand for childcare services in the town, is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, if not earlier.
The construction costs for the new addition are estimated to be around 1.3 million euros. The federal government will cover approximately two-thirds of the costs, amounting to approximately 886,000 euros. The additional space will provide an extra 300 square meters to the school.
The extension will be directly adjacent to the existing school building and will include three additional rooms for childcare facilities. A mobile partition wall will allow two of the rooms to be combined into one large room when necessary.
The construction work began before the summer holidays and preparatory work for a planned emergency staircase at the natural play area has already been completed. Work on the emergency staircase will begin during the school holidays, with the raw construction of the extension expected to be completed after the holidays.
The new addition will also feature a flat roof with a PV system, demonstrating the city's commitment to sustainable energy solutions. The interior work can proceed independently of the weather by the end of the year.
The construction of the addition is in response to the upcoming legal right to full-day care for elementary school children, which includes 40 hours per week, starting from the 2026/27 school year. The exact completion date for the project is yet to be confirmed, but the construction is aiming to be completed by the start of the 2026/27 school year, latest by the end of 2026.
For more detailed information about the project, such as the exact completion date and any updates on the progress of the construction, we recommend checking local school district announcements, municipal records, or news reports focused on regional developments.
The city council is planning to apply for funding to cover the remaining one-third of the construction costs for the education and self-development expansion at Mühlheim's Elementary School. Once completed, the addition will provide an extra 300 square meters, including three new childcare facilities with a retractable partition wall.
