Grant allocates resources for modernizing Prince Lab at Brown University, resulting in the Lassonde Innovation and Design Center
The Lassonde Innovation and Design Hub, a new campus hub designed to foster innovation and creativity among Brown University students, is set to open in the near future. The hub will be located at the heart of the School of Engineering complex, thanks to the support of the Lassonde Family Foundation.
The foundation, led by Canadian businessman Pierre Lassonde, has funded a $16.75 million renovation of Brown University's Prince Lab. Lassonde, co-founder and chairman emeritus of Franco-Nevada Corporation, is a renowned philanthropist who has made significant contributions to several universities.
The Lassonde Innovation and Design Hub aims to be a central hub for Brown makers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and artists. It will offer a flexible design that can accommodate a variety of project types and a multidisciplinary approach, welcoming students from all majors to collaborate.
The hub will feature a makerspace, a prototyping lab for students to create and test their designs, and a dedicated space for entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas and receive feedback. It will also offer workshops and training sessions for students to learn new graphic design skills.
Renderings for the hub have been provided by Page Architects, who have designed the project. The hub is expected to be a place where students can collaborate on projects and bring their ideas to life, inviting students from across campus to ideate, collaborate, design, and build.
The Lassonde Innovation and Design Hub is intended to support innovation and creativity among students, serving as a gathering place where students can work on projects and share ideas. It is designed to facilitate project-centered learning, making it an essential addition to the Brown University campus.
While the exact opening date has not yet been announced, the anticipation for the Lassonde Innovation and Design Hub is building. Once open, it is expected to play a significant role in fostering innovation, creativity, and collaboration among Brown University students.
