GBO Switches to District Heating, Slashing CO2 Emissions
GBO, a non-profit building society in Offenbach, is actively reducing its reliance on natural gas. Around 1,600 apartments are already heated by district heating, with more conversions planned. The city supports this switch, aiming for climate neutrality by 2045.
GBO, led by CEO René Weber, is exploring which gas-operated heating systems can be converted to district heating. The senior citizens' residential complex in Annastraße will benefit from this sustainable energy supply in the coming heating season. The district heating comes from EVO Energieversorgung Offenbach GmbH's energy plant, generated in a waste incineration power plant.
EVO aims to be the first energy supplier in Hesse to achieve climate neutrality by 2040. The conversion to district heating for the senior citizens' complex should be completed with little effort, thanks to the nearby district heating pipeline. This switch will generate around 70 percent less CO2 than a gas heating system.
GBO's conversion to district heating is expected to significantly reduce CO2 emissions. The senior citizens' residential complex in Annastraße will enjoy a sustainable energy supply from the next heating season. The conversion costs will not be passed on to tenants, with GBO expecting a subsidy of at least 30 percent for the investment.
