Exploring Employment Opportunities for Immigrants and Refugees with Disabilities: Fresh Insights at the "Work - But How?" Conference

The inclusion circle "Flight. Migration. Disability" is hosting a full-day expert congress titled "Work - but how?" on September 25, 2025, at the Diocesan Centre Obermünster in Regensburg. Registrations for the event are possible until September 15, 2025.

The main focus of the congress is creating fair access to the labor market for migrant and refugee people with disabilities. The conference aims to make existing challenges visible, develop solutions, and formulate concrete impulses for practice.

The morning session will include greetings from regional politicians and representatives of the Bavarian Ministry, main lectures, and a moderated panel discussion with audience participation. Claire Deery and Silvia Floris are scheduled to give main lectures.

In the afternoon, a World Café will be held for exchange and discussion on topics such as eliminating barriers, forms of eye-level support, successful practical examples, and the role of companies as key actors. The workshop titled "Work - but how?" will be held to develop practical approaches and concrete demands.

The inclusion circle was founded in 2020 and received the Inclusion Prize of the Upper Palatinate District in 2022. The circle focuses on improving labor market access for migrant and refugee people with disabilities.

Numerous representatives of the approximately 500 EUTB advisory centres participated in the Erfurt conference, where the particular challenges of double discrimination were discussed. The expert conference "Strengthen cooperation, further develop guiding principle, promote cooperation" in May 2025 in Erfurt also addressed the topic of migration and disability.

The organizations involved in organizing and coordinating the expert congress in Regensburg are the University of Regensburg, the Bavarian Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, and the Regensburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The venue for the Regensburg congress is barrier-free.

State Councilor Tanja Schweiger says the congress aims to make existing challenges visible, develop solutions, and formulate concrete impulses for practice. More information and registration can be found at Congress registration. For inquiries, contact L. Keil at [email protected] or 0941 4009-371, A. Goldberg at [email protected] or 0171 577-4587, or S. The congress is part of the Intercultural Weeks Regensburg 2025. Attendees are encouraged to join this important event to contribute to the development of practical approaches and concrete demands for improving labor market access for migrant and refugee people with disabilities.
