Empowering the Perspectives of Youth

On August 19, 2025, at 4–5 pm, the New Zealand Association for Environmental Education (NZAEE) is hosting a thought-provoking webinar titled "Uplifting the Vision of Young People". This nationwide event is a fantastic opportunity for educators and enthusiasts alike to join a discussion about uplifting student voice and vision in the context of climate change education.

The webinar will be run by the NZAEE, an organisation dedicated to providing resources and professional development for educators to effectively plan and teach climate change-related topics. The session will feature guest speakers such as teacher Angie Rayner, climate change educator Sian Carvell, and Becky McCormack from NZAEE.

The discussion will focus on cross-curricular inquiry learning, place, hope, agency, and climate action. It will emphasise the importance of children's rights and authentic action within climate change education. The speakers will also highlight the significance of empowering ākonga (learners) through curriculum links, authentic learning, and community action focused on climate change.

If you're interested in attending, registration is free and can be done by following this link: [here]. For more details and registration, it's best to consult the NZAEE's website directly.

Apart from this webinar, the NZAEE offers a wealth of resources on sustainability education across all stages. These resources include case studies, curriculum links, and examples of local climate action in Aotearoa. For instance, you can find projects on plastics pollution and use of green spaces for learning mathematics linked to environmental themes.

Moreover, the NZAEE provides ongoing professional learning and development, networking opportunities, and connections to experts supporting climate and sustainability education. They offer a PLD webinar series, including "Understanding the basics of climate change", "Exploring climate change education in secondary schools", and "Exploring climate change education in primary schools".

One of the key resources provided by the NZAEE is the "Climate change resources - planning pathways". This group of resources hubs together key science and teaching concepts such as evidence and models, and sea-level rise, to support educators in creating engaging and effective lessons about climate change for their students.

In conclusion, the NZAEE's webinar and resources aim to provide insights into various aspects of climate change education. By attending this webinar, you'll not only gain valuable knowledge but also contribute to a discussion that could shape the future of climate change education in New Zealand. So, mark your calendars for August 19, 2025, and join the NZAEE in their mission to empower young minds and create a sustainable future.

Attending the NZAEE webinar entitled "Uplifting the Vision of Young People" will offer valuable insights on cross-curricular inquiry learning and climate action, which are essential elements in the field of education-and-self-development and learning. The NZAEE PLD webinar series also provides ongoing professional learning opportunities, such as "Understanding the basics of climate change" and "Exploring climate change education in primary schools", further promoting learning and self-development.
