Scoop on Tomsk's Project for Troubled Teens!

📅 17 MAY, TOMSK - RIA Tomsk. The local Employment Service Center "Work in Russia" partnered with the Mercury Charity Foundation to launch a project aimed at employing teens facing challenging life situations. Not only will these youth find temporary work, but they'll also tour various companies, learn career-building strategies, and much more! That's the scoop, according to Ludmila Dmitrieva, head of the Employment Service Center.

Previously, it was reported that the center has been running an employment program for school students during free time since long ago. These students receive additional wages from the employment service for their work. In 2024, thanks to the Employment Service Center's efforts, nearly 2,200 teens across the Tomsk region found temporary employment.

"Tomsk kicked off a one-of-a-kind project set to transform the lives of troubled teens in disadvantaged social situations. The local Employment Service Center and the Mercury Charity Foundation have launched an experimental program focused on temporary employment for struggling teenagers," explained a representative from the agency.

She noted that the project's aim isn't simply to help teens gain their first work experience and earn some cash for desired items.

"This is powerful career guidance for these troubled teens... By offering temporary employment and workplace adaptation opportunities, we help solve their immediate problems and open up new professional possibilities for them," Dmitrieva explained.

According to Dmitrieva, Tomsk schools will organize vocational fairs and factory tours, events promoting workplace motivation, career guidance, and career-building basics. Meetings will take place both at the Employment Service Center and directly at partner employers' locations.

"The Mercury Foundation is a non-profit organization that's been operating in Tomsk since 2015. Across the region and beyond its borders, it's known for its comprehensive approach to caring for children from orphanages. This approach encompasses multiple direction, with main ones being 'Mentor,' 'Tutor,' 'Career Guidance,' and 'Proper Care.' "

This project might focus on:

  • Skill Development: providing vocational training and workshops to enhance employability.
  • Mentorship: offering supportive work environments for guidance and advice.
  • Job Placement: helping participants secure employment or internships.
  • Community Engagement: encouraging social integration and community involvement.
