Young Conservationists Graduate from Bavarian Rhön Nature Park Junior Ranger Program

The Bavarian Rhön Nature Park recently hosted the graduation ceremony for its Junior Ranger program, a popular initiative designed to engage children and young people in nature conservation, environmental awareness, and outdoor activities.

The program, which caters to a diverse age group, has completed its training for 18 participants this year. During the course, the Junior Rangers have gained extensive nature experiences and knowledge about various animal and plant species and habitats.

Activities ranged from educational workshops and nature hikes to practical conservation tasks, all tailored to the participants' age group. Some memorable moments included learning safe navigation in nature, identifying different insects and amphibians at ponds, and participating in conservation work such as pressing juice on the orchard, planting a hedge, and building bird nesting boxes and bee nesting aids.

The closing event took place at the Nature Interpretation Center Black Moor, with Lisa Jensen, the managing director of the Bavarian Rhön Nature Park and Biosphere Reserve, present. Nature Park Ranger Martina Faber congratulated the new Junior Rangers and presented them with certificates, new t-shirts, and patches as their "uniform".

The Junior Rangers now want to engage as ambassadors of the Nature Park and Biosphere Reserve for the protection of nature and the preservation of biological diversity. One of the graduates, Junior Ranger Maxi, shared his enthusiasm, recalling his experiences fondly, "I remember fishing and identifying different insects and amphibians at ponds."

Felix, another Junior Ranger, stated that his motivation was being outdoors in nature and learning about plants and animals. Junior Ranger Tobias reports wanting to continue participating in Junior Ranger meetings in the future.

The program is a part of the National Natural Landscapes, aiming to boost children and young people's self-confidence and identification with their homeland. Families of the Junior Rangers were invited to the closing event, making it a celebration not only for the graduates but also for their families.
