Three New Members Join Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority has announced the appointment of three new members, each bringing a unique background and passion for the environment to their roles.

John Hogg, a native of Pembroke, will serve as a Member. With over 35 years' experience at Board and senior management levels in the public sector, Hogg has a strong belief in the importance of the National Park's work. He was awarded an MBE for services to environmental management in 2021. Outside of work, Hogg has a keen interest in Welsh heritage apples, orchards, and beekeeping.

Hogg is also a former voluntary Chair of the environmental charity, Keep Wales Tidy. He currently serves as a Governor at Ysgol Caer Elen.

Fiona Day, an environmental educator and conservation professional, will join the Authority as well. Day holds a BSc in Biological Sciences and an MSc in Sustainability and Ecology. She is a Chartered Environmentalist and a member of the British Ecological Society's Education and Careers Committee.

Day is passionate about inspiring people of all ages to connect with wildlife. She has experience working with schools, communities, and young people to broaden access to nature. In her current role as Education and Community Engagement Lead for The Mammal Society, she has made significant contributions to conservation efforts.

Day volunteers as a Girlguiding Leader and has a deep commitment to environmental education and conservation.

Helen Gwenllian, who has held several senior appointments in Sustainability and Regeneration, will also serve as a Member. Gwenllian is an accredited trainer for professional qualifications with the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals. She is also a Chartered Environmentalist.

Outside of her professional life, Gwenllian enjoys good food, playing games with her family and friends, and playing cricket with Merched Bronwydd.

The appointments have been made in accordance with the Governance Code on Public Appointments. All appointees have declared they have not undertaken any political activity in the past five years. The annual payment for National Park Authority Members is £5,576, reflecting a time commitment of a minimum of 44 days per year.

Gwenllian will serve as a Member from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2029, while the tenure for Hogg and Day is yet to be determined.

The addition of these three individuals brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the National Park Authority, ensuring that the organisation continues to strive for excellence in environmental conservation and education.
