DepEd-Davao Confirms No Revival of Controversial Salugpungan Schools
The Department of Education in Davao Region (DepEd-Davao) has confirmed that there are no verified reports of the reestablishment of the controversial Salugpungan Ta' Tanu Igkanugon Community Learning Centers in the region. The 2019 suspension of these schools was based on concrete evidence and due process.
DepEd-11 continues to monitor the situation and will act according to rules and due process to safeguard the integrity of basic education. Establishing a school requires meeting strict legal, administrative, and population-based criteria, making it difficult for entities with a troubled history to secure permits.
National and local agencies are working together under the ELCAC framework to maintain peace and protect learners. DepEd-11 is pursuing school conversion strategies to better serve local population needs. Meanwhile, the department is expanding access and quality in remote communities through initiatives like Last Mile Schools and support for the Alternative Learning System.
DepEd remains vigilant and alert to any developments affecting learner safety and school legitimacy. There have been no observed attempts to revive Salugpungan schools that meet their monitoring threshold. The department continues to deny reports of a comeback in the region, citing strict regulations and no verified attempts to reestablish the schools.
