Day care centers "Dewitzer Spatzennest" and "Kükennest" to merge in 2026, Taucha

The city of Taucha, Germany, has announced a planned merger of two kindergartens, the "Dewitzer Spatzennest" and "Kükennest," effective January 1, 2026. The decision, which was discussed by the local committee on July 29, 2025, aims to address significant structural defects, particularly in fire safety, at the "Dewitzer Spatzennest."

The new combined kindergarten will be named "Spatzennest" and will be located at the current "Kükennest" building on Eilenburger Straße 84, 04425 Taucha. To ensure a smooth transition, there will be a halt on new admissions to the "Dewitzer Spatzennest" starting August 4, 2025. This period will also be used for team-building and practice sessions at the new location.

All staff from both facilities will be fully integrated into the new organization, and pedagogical staff will have the opportunity to work in the new combined facility. Special emphasis will be placed on ensuring that the care of the children continues seamlessly during the transition.

The carrier (operator) of the new facility will be the Volkssolidarität Leipziger Land/Muldental e. V. (VS) from January 1, 2026. The city administration is developing a detailed transition plan with all parties involved, which is expected to be completed by September 2025.

The merger aims to make care offerings more efficient, bundle resources, and secure the quality of care. Additional pedagogical closure days will be held at the end of 2025/2026 to prepare the teams for the new joint work.

Currently, a total of 113 children are cared for in the two kindergartens, with 54 at the "Dewitzer Spatzennest" and 59 at the "Kükennest." The existing care arrangements with the children of the "Kükennest" will be seamlessly continued by the VS.

The final decision on the merger will be made at the city council meeting of the city of Taucha on August 14, 2025. Mayor Tobias Meier emphasizes that they will work closely with all parties involved to ensure a smooth transition.
