The Main Customs Office Dresden has welcomed 46 new trainees on September 1, 2025, as part of the ongoing dual study programs and apprenticeships. These initiatives, which blend theory and practice, are designed to equip young people with the skills and knowledge needed to excel as future customs officers.

Around 1,700 young people were sworn in across Germany on the same day, marking the start of their journey towards becoming customs officers. The apprenticeship in the middle service lasts two years and qualifies for the professional title of tax administrator. Meanwhile, the dual study program lasts three years and concludes with the academic degree "Bachelor of Laws" (LL.B.).

Press inquiries should be directed to Rebecca Weidner at the Main Customs Office Dresden, who can be reached at 0351/4644-1048 or via email at [email protected]. For details about the administrative informatics study, contact the IDirectorate Münster location at 0228/303-14364 or via email at [email protected].

The practical phases of the programs are spent in various areas of the training main customs office, nearby customs offices, customs investigation offices, and suitable areas of the General Customs Directorate. During these phases, trainees gain hands-on experience, complementing the theoretical knowledge they acquire.

In addition to the middle service apprenticeship and the dual study program, the German Customs Administration also offers training and career opportunities for the higher service. These opportunities, starting September 2026, are available through Observation Units (OEZ) at Customs Investigation Offices across various locations nationwide. The focus is on operational roles in middle service pay groups A 7/A 9m+Z. After an introductory training, candidates can further specialize in fields such as driver safety training, special unit training for sports and shooting, or emergency medical service.

The application deadline for these positions is October 15, 2025. Interested parties can apply for a start date of September 1, 2026, at the Main Customs Office Dresden for the higher or middle customs service, or at the General Customs Directorate for administrative informatics.

On this occasion, nine young talents started a dual study program in the higher service, while 37 began an apprenticeship in the middle service. Upon completion of these programs, young customs officers can expect employment in various areas of the customs office.
