Newly Elected and Re-elected Members of the MIT Corporation

The MIT Corporation, the institute's board of trustees, recently welcomed new members and re-elected some term members for five-year terms. The newly elected and re-elected members include distinguished leaders in education, science, engineering, and industry.

Among the newly elected members, five MIT faculty members were elected to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) in 2025 for their outstanding and continuing research achievements. These faculty members are Professors Rodney Brooks, Parag Pathak, Scott Sheffield, Benjamin Weiss, and Yukiko Yamashita. In addition, thirteen MIT alumni were also elected to the NAS, recognised for their original research contributions across various scientific disciplines.

Professor Rodney A. Brooks, who was elected to the NAS, is a prominent figure with a PhD in computer science from Stanford University and a long-standing MIT faculty member since 1984. His research spans computer vision, robotics, autonomous systems, and planetary exploration. Other alumni elected to the NAS include notable scientists such as David Altshuler, Kathleen Collins, George Daley, and Julia Greer among others, representing achievements in biomedical and scientific research.

In the MIT Corporation, alumni nominees and representatives of recent graduating classes also serve five-year terms. This year, K. Anne Street '69, SM '72, President and CEO of Riverside Consulting Group, Inc., and Alia Whitney-Johnson '09, Executive Director of Emerge Global and a Rhodes Scholar, were elected as Alumni/ae Association nominees and representatives of recent classes, respectively.

Megan J. Smith '86, SM '88, who studied mechanical engineering at MIT, and Henri A. Termeer were re-elected to a second term as term members of the MIT Corporation. Megan J. Smith, who is currently serving her second 5-year term, is Vice President of New Business Development at Google Inc., while Henri A. Termeer, who is also serving his second term, was the Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Genzyme Corporation.

As an ex officio member of the Corporation, R. Gregory Turner '74 will play a role in the governing body of MIT. R. Gregory Turner '74, who has been named the 2011-12 president of the Association of Alumni and Alumnae of MIT, is President of Turner Duran Architects.

Charlene C. Kabcenell '79, a retired Vice President of Oracle Corporation, and Eve J. Higginbotham '75, an ophthalmologist and Senior Vice President and Executive Dean for Health Sciences at Howard University, were also elected as members of the MIT Corporation.

At July 1, the Corporation will consist of 73 distinguished leaders in education, science, engineering, and industry. Life members serve without a specific term until they turn 75 years old, and term members serve five-year terms in the MIT Corporation. The MIT Corporation webpage or official MIT announcements would be the most authoritative sources for the latest roster of MIT Corporation members with details on their backgrounds and accomplishments.
