Commencement of Early Schooling at the New ALMA Education Institute
The Nordhorner Astrid-Lindgren-Schule and Marienschule have found a new home at the extensively renovated ALMA School Center, located at Von-Behring-Straße. The move took place on August 9, 2018, marking a significant milestone in the transformation of the former Anne-Frank-Schule.
The city of Nordhorn undertook the renovation and conversion of the building, investing around 2.15 million euros so far. The largest portion of this sum was spent on the complete renewal of the building technology, including electronics, heating, and ventilation, amounting to approximately 1.2 million euros.
Six additional group rooms, three art, workshop, and care rooms have been established, while eight general group rooms have been created for each of the two schools. The new cafeteria offers around 110 seats, providing ample space for students to gather and socialise.
The search results do not provide information about the architect or architectural group responsible for the design and renovation of the ALMA School Center. It is known, however, that work will continue at the school for the next two years, including an energy-efficient renovation of the roof, walls, and windows.
The city council has allocated another approximately 1.5 million euros for the further development of the schoolyard and renovation of the sports hall. The rooms for teachers have been extensively renovated, ensuring a comfortable and conducive learning environment.
The school principals have named the new building the 'ALMA School Center', an acronym for Astrid-Lindgren-Schule and Marienschule. The city of Nordhorn purchased the building from Landkreis Grafschaft Bentheim last year, which had used it as a refugee accommodation.
The ALMA School Center now serves as the home for both the Nordhorner Astrid-Lindgren-Schule and Marienschule, providing them with modern facilities to foster learning and growth.
