Collaboration between Truecaller and Khyaal for Securing Elderly Population from Fraudulent Activities
In a move aimed at enhancing the digital safety of senior citizens, Truecaller and Khyaal have joined forces. This partnership, established during the COVID-19 pandemic, seeks to deliver protection with empowerment to seniors, as Rishit Jhunjhunwala, Global CEO of Truecaller, stated.
Founded in 2020, Khyaal is India's number one app for senior citizens, with over 3 million seniors and growing. Khyaal's mission is to simplify retirement and enrich the lives of senior citizens. The app provides a variety of services, including live workshops, safe payments, on-demand assistance, gold investment, offers, travel packages, and family support.
Truecaller, a globally recognized name in communication, is an essential part of everyday communication for over 450 million active users. Known for its caller identification and spam blocking services, Truecaller has identified and blocked over 5 billion unwanted calls in 2024. The Premium subscription of Truecaller includes enhanced spam blocking and advanced safety features.
The partnership between Khyaal and Truecaller addresses the increasing concern about digital scams targeting seniors. In the digital age, seniors are often targeted by specific tactics such as phishing emails and messages, AI-generated deepfakes, tech support fraud, and impersonation of government agencies or loved ones to steal money or personal information. These scams exploit seniors' trust, social isolation, limited digital literacy, and sometimes cognitive decline, pressuring them with urgency, fear, or pretending to offer help.
Truecaller's fraud prevention technology will be leveraged in the partnership to protect seniors from digital fraud. While specific detailed mechanisms of the partnership were not part of the search results, it is expected that the partnership will aim to identify and block scam calls before seniors answer them, educate seniors about common scam tactics, and provide tools to help seniors manage suspicious communications safely.
Beyond digital boundaries, the partnership extends through Khyaal's "50Above50" event. The partnership includes the creation of educational content, such as "New Scam Highlights" sessions and interactive workshops. These initiatives will be delivered through digital and on-ground formats.
Hemanshu Jain, Founder & CEO of Khyaal, has expressed concern about seniors losing their savings to digital scams. He believes that this partnership will empower seniors to navigate the digital landscape safely and securely.
This integrated tech and awareness approach aligns with best practices recommended to guard against digital scams exploiting seniors' vulnerabilities. Truecaller's caller identification and spam blocking services, combined with Khyaal's engagement with seniors, will undoubtedly contribute to reducing successful scams targeting older adults.
Truecaller has been publicly listed on Nasdaq Stockholm since October 2021. Members of Khyaal will receive a 50% discount on Truecaller Premium membership as part of this partnership. This partnership is a significant step towards ensuring the digital safety and empowerment of senior citizens.
