City government in Magdeburg brings on 51 fresh apprentices

In the heart of Saxony-Anhalt, the state capital of Magdeburg, a new wave of trainees is preparing to join the city's administration. A total of 154 men and women are currently undergoing training in various areas, with 420 applications received for the available positions.

Mayor Simone Borris recently welcomed 51 new trainees and students to the city administration, marking a significant step in the city's ongoing commitment to nurturing talent. The trainees will be working in 11 different areas within the city administration, each playing a crucial role in the smooth functioning of the city.

The new trainees include 13 administrative specialists, 2 media and information specialists, 1 surveying technician, 2 street cleaners, 4 bath operation specialists, 3 environmental technology specialists for waste management, 5 gardeners, 1 animal caretaker, and 9 city secretaries. Some trainees will also be starting a dual study program in public administration, administrative digitization and informatics, and surveying and geoinformatics.

Beyond the city administration, Magdeburg is also home to a variety of notable training programs. The Otto-von-Guericke University (OVGU) offers German language courses and tuition-free Master's programs in Biochemical Engineering fully taught in English. The UNESCO-UNEVOC Centre Magdeburg within Fraunhofer IFF facilities hosts an expert meeting on AI's role in technical and vocational education.

One unique program is the "Recognition of Non-formal Learning with Quality Open Badges," scheduled for October 2025. This course offers digital credentials and certification such as Youthpass and Open Badges, and is facilitated by an experienced trainers' team at the residential youth center EJBM in Magdeburg.

While the exact number of trainees enrolled in these programs is not publicly detailed, those interested in precise enrollment figures are encouraged to contact the Otto-von-Guericke University, Fraunhofer IFF, or local training centers in Magdeburg directly.

As Magdeburg continues to grow and evolve, its diverse training and educational programs reflect a dynamic educational environment. The city's ongoing commitment to nurturing talent and providing opportunities for growth is evident in the 420 applications received for the current training positions. The city wishes its new trainees success and joy in their vocational training.
