Child-focused swimming lessons for refugee youths
In the heart of Wiesbaden, a new initiative is making waves. The city's Economic Forum e.V. and Schwimm-Club Wiesbaden 1911 e.V. have joined forces to provide swimming lessons for refugee children, aiming to promote inclusion, safety, and well-being.
The project, funded by Wiesbaden's Economic Forum e.V., focuses on education, integration, and equal opportunities. It is designed to enable children, regardless of their origin or financial situation, to participate. The project's significance from a sporting perspective was expressed by Christoph Eichler, President of Schwimm-Club Wiesbaden 1911 e.V.
Dr. Patricia Becher, representing the city administration of Wiesbaden, received the symbolic handover of the swimming project. In her speech, Dr. Becher emphasized the project's importance, stating that it would enable refugee children and young people to learn to swim safely, providing them with an essential everyday skill, self-confidence, participation, and joy.
The first swimming courses for children aged 10 to 15 will commence on Monday, August 25, at the ESWE leisure pool. For younger children, aged 5 to 8, a further round of swimming courses will start from Saturday, August 30, at the Kleinfeldchen. Qualified trainers from Schwimm-Club Wiesbaden will oversee the project.
The city's social and administrative services will ensure the referral of the target group to the project. Citizens with questions regarding this matter are encouraged to contact the responsible department or office.
This initiative is not a new endeavour for Schwimm-Club Wiesbaden, as they have been supporting the integration of refugee people through sports since the Ukraine war. The Economic Forum e.V., with its conviction that social engagement is not a duty but a conviction, is proud to contribute to this project.
