Borbeck-Mitte's Traugott-Weise School Marks 50 Years of Supporting Special Needs Students
Borbeck-Mitte's Traugott-Weise School marked its 50th anniversary on September 19, 2025. Essen's mayor, Thomas Kufen, praised the school's work and achievements, highlighting its unique approach to supporting students with special needs.
Founded in 1975, the school has always aimed to provide opportunities for every student to develop according to their abilities. Today, over 200 students attend the school, many of whom are on the autism spectrum and benefit from the TEACCH room, established in 2011, for structured learning.
The school offers a range of facilities to support its students, including a swimming pool, sports hall, dance projects, and ski trips. It aims to help students with special needs achieve independent living.
On its 50th anniversary, the Traugott-Weise School reflects on its history and looks forward to continuing its mission. Mayor Thomas Kufen's congratulations acknowledge the school's dedication and the unique talents of its students.
